Frequently Asked Questions Table of Contents
How are the manual reproductions produced?First, all of our reproductions are produced by us personally from original manuals. We do not use copy machines, high speed document scanners or sell pdf files downloaded from the web or elsewhere as some manual dealers do. All of our manuals are scanned at high resolution on Microtek ScanMaker i900, 8700, Epson Perfection 3170 Photo or Mustek & Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL Tabloid scanners in either true color or grayscale, depending on the original. In addition, a Xerox 8836 wide format scanner set-up is used for those pages larger than tabloid size. They are then cleaned up of any detracting marks, if possible and made into pdf files for print on demand. Printing is done on Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4100DTN (7) 1200 dpi printers for grayscale, Hewlett Packard LaserJet 8150DN (2) for 11"X 17" fold-outs and either a Hewlett Packard Color LaserJet 8550DN (2), 4600DN (3) color laser printers for color covers & internals, when needed. All manuals are duplex printed exactly like the original and are comb bound (either 15 or 19 hole binding depending on whether manual opens in portrait or landscape). We use genuine HP supplies for all of our printer for perfect results every time. We use Dell Precision workstations (5) with dual Intel Xeon processors and at least 4GB of RAM for processing and printing. Lastly, we do not sell electronic versions of our manuals for two reasons. First, the files are entirely too large, ranging from 10MB up to as much as 3GB each. We do not reduce or otherwise try make our files smaller at the expense of quality. Second, we do not want our manual scans ending up posted on other manual websites claiming them as their own.
Back to TopWhere can I find the manual I need ?Go to the "Products" page. There you will see links to each letter of the alphabet with sample manufacturers next to each letter. This will take you to the page for that letters manufacturers. They are then listed alphabetically, first by manufacturer, then by model number. Back to TopDo you sell your manuals as electronic files or pdfs?As a general rule of thumb, we do not sell electronic versions of our manuals for two reasons. First, the files are entirely too large, ranging from 10MB up to as much as 3GB each . We do not reduce or otherwise try make our files smaller at the expense of quality. Second, we do not want our manual scans ending up posted on other manual websites claiming them as their own. This has happened numerous times in the past and now there are some sites selling our work as their own (probably the best copies they offer based on what I've seen of their actual work). Back to TopHow do I request a manual(s) ?Due to my inability to create a decent web page (fortunately we do manuals much better than we do web site creation), my request form on the "Ordering" page does not work. This leaves only an e-mail request to me at requests@vintageaudiomanuals.com . Hopefully, we will eventually get this page fixed and that will simplify a request for you. Back to TopHow long will it take for me to receive my order ?All orders are shipped USPS First Class or Priority Mail, depending on the size of the manual. If the manual is already scanned, it will ship within 24 hours of receipt of payment. If it is not scanned, you will be notified that there could be a 2 - 3 day delay in shipping in order to facilitate a proper scan of the manual to create the best manual reproduction possible. For our customers outside the United States, manuals are shipped via USPS First Class International or Priority International Mail. Back to TopWhat are the prices of the manuals ?This is entirely dependent on the size/complexity of the manual. All price quotes are for the manual including shipping. If the quote is $10.00, that is the total delivered to your door in the U.S. or Canada. If you are in another country, let me know when making the request and again, the quote will be the total shipped to your location. Back to TopDo we buy manuals ?YES! We will buy just about any manual that isn't already in our inventory. In addition, we will be happy to pay round trip shipping and a fee to "borrow" manuals that you may not want to part with permanently but don't mind lending out for a few days. We are always in the market for manuals. Send us a list of what you have and what you want for them and we'll let you know. Back to Top
